A Day in the Life (not so quick!)
For 2023 Celc and BSE will once again work together to offer the best possible programme and experience. Our aim is that the young people that join us make strong progress with their English language learning, grow in personal confidence, see and enjoy English places and culture, and make friends and memories that will last a lifetime.
Care and Supervision
Students benefit from a leader / student ratio of 1:14, 24-hour supervision and ready access to First Aid and medical support. Trips and excursions are accompanied by competent activity leaders and a manager. Students are issued with an emergency card that carries key telephone numbers.
The course has a thematic structure. This provides consistency and plenty of opportunities for students to recycle language in different situations. The mornings consist of three one-hour sessions and these are structured to engage students with classroom-based tasks that prepare them for the afternoon projects.
The projects involve both the teachers and outside professional instructors working together to facilitate both the content and the language needed to complete the task. Leadership skills, teamwork and initiative are nurtured.
Teaching & learning amounts to 20+ hours per week. We ensure that students cover all the essentials of grammar, vocabulary and language skills. All teachers are qualified and experienced. At the end of Summer School each student is presented with a course completion certificate.
Students enjoy very comfortable twin-bedded rooms. They each share with a student of a similar age but of a different nationality. This really helps with integration and the use of English. Students are taught in superb classrooms, and meals are served in the spacious Dining Hall. There are lounges, sports hall, state-of-the-art auditorium, bonfire pit and beautiful parkland grounds.
The programme offers a very generous number of quality excursions. The draft detailed programme can be downloaded from this page. It includes trips to London, Thorpe Park Theme Park, Bath, Oxford, Salisbury, Swanage, Winchester and Durdle Door. Although the excursions are designed to be fun they also offer plenty of scope for sightseeing, shopping and learning.
Students benefit from a wide range of activities led by our very committed activity leaders. These include the Celc Dance Club, FA football coaching, swimming, art & craft, team building, fashion show, basketball, cake baking, uni-hoc, fitness workouts, volleyball, open mic evening, bonfires, table tennis, film nights and loads more.
Students enjoy English, Continental and American breakfast options, along with varied main meals plus barbecues and good quality packed lunches when on full-day excursions.
The special Friday evening event at the end of week 2 and week 4 is a big highlight and includes non-alcoholic cocktails, awards ceremony, prizes and sit down dinner. Red carpet, waiter service, posh dress code!
Students of any faith and none are equally welcome. The programme will be safe and wholesome. Respect, tolerance and honesty are expected of all students and staff. One of the activity options on each Sunday will be a short Christian worship service for those who want to attend.

Covid-19 Policy and refunds
Our policy in terms of coronavirus testing and isolation is to follow whatever government guidelines are in place at the time our programme takes place.
We appreciate that this may change between now and July, but we will respond to any change appropriately.
The current situation in the UK is that international visitors who are fully vaccinated or under the age of 18 do not need to test before travelling and do not need to test or self-isolate on arrival.
If nothing changes before July, the school will respect and follow this guidance.
Self-isolation & testing:
The current situation in the UK is that asymptomatic testing has stopped and there is no expectation for people to test on a regular basis.
Those who develop symptoms of coronavirus are advised to test and self-isolate, but there is no legal requirement to do so.
If nothing changes before July, the school will respect and follow this guidance and not require students to test or self-isolate during the programme.
UK law does not apply to departures; people leaving the UK must follow the law of the country they are travelling to.
If a student is required to test before travelling to their destination, we will organise and assist with this process. Any costs will need to be covered by the student or their parent/guardian, but the costs are modest and the system is reliable.
If a student cannot travel home due to a positive covid test before departure, we will take all reasonable measures to look after them and manage their extended stay sensitively until such time as they are able to return home.
The associated costs would need to be covered by an insurance policy or by the parent/legal guardian directly; these could be significant and we therefore strongly recommend an appropriate insurance policy.
If the UK government, or the government in your country, advises against travel to the UK before you have started your programme, we will refund all fees OR give you the opportunity to defer your programme until a future year, if still of age. The £150.00 registration fee will be retained as soon as its associated services have been provided; all other money received will be refunded in full.
If we are forced to cancel our summer school due to coronavirus or any other reason, all money received, including the registration fee, will be returned in full.
If a student cannot travel to the UK, for any reason, they would be required to cancel their course. Any cancellation would incur a cancellation fee as follows:
– If you cancel less than 30 days before the start of your course, the cancellation fee is £100.00.
– If you cancel less than 20 days before the start of your course, the cancellation fee is £250.00.
– If you cancel less than 10 days before the start of your course, the cancellation fee is £500.00.
In order to avoid a cancellation fee due to a positive Covid-19 test, we strongly suggest that parents/guardians take out an insurance policy which includes cancellation, as is the case with the insurance recommended above.
